Forty-four African countries have formed an African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) aimed at creating a single market for goods and services with free movement of businesses and investments. Together with the signing of the agreement on the AfCFTA, 27 African countries also signed the Protocol to the Treaty establishing the African Economic Community relating to free movement of persons, right of residence and right of establishment. The agreements will still require ratification by the individual governments and will only come into force when ratified by at least 22 countries.
